Welcome to the 1st step in our journey together. I'm your guide, Zakia Ringgold, and today, we're delving into the cornerstone of success, your mindset. Now whether you're working a full time job or taking those first steps towards entrepreneurs cultivating the right mindset is your key to unlocking your true potential. as a business owner. Now I know it might sound like we're going into uncharted woo woo territory here, but trust me, I am not a woo woo type of girl. This journey isn't about, like, vague affirmations or empty mantras. we're diving head first into practical strategies and actual tools. However, just like a skyscraper needs a solid foundation, our tech focused discussions will only thrive when built on the cornerstone of a growth mindset.

Zakia Ringgold [00:00:59]:

So you see, without this mindset, even the most powerful tech tools won't help you reach your full potential. So shifting from an employee to an entrepreneur involves more than just a change in career. It's a profound shift. in your thoughts, perspectives, and the way that you approach any challenge you may face. So allow me to introduce myself. I'm Zakiya, a virtual event architect with a business designing various immersive virtual and unforgettable online experiences. So I was armed with a passion for technology as well as a knack for creating engaging events. I set out on my journey as an entrepreneur right at the height of the pandemic.

Zakia Ringgold [00:01:52]:

full of ambition and an unmatched drive to succeed. So in the early stages, my virtual events were met with tons of excitement. I had clients like clawing and all of that. They were excited about the interactive elements. what was innovative about the platforms that we were using, and most importantly, the seamless execution of what they saw for their events. However, over time, I started to encounter challenges. There were technical glitches, problems with the staff, communication gaps and just an overall creative slump. After you do so many virtual events, they start to kinda come together.

Zakia Ringgold [00:02:37]:

and I started to get really frustrated. And I found myself starting to question my abilities, like, had had I gotten stale? Had things changed? And I couldn't understand why my events weren't reaching their full potential why my business wasn't necessarily scaling. I thought that because I mastered the technical aspects of virtual production, That was going to be all I needed for success. And the mums went by, and my business definitely hit a plateau. -- despite how dedicated I was, as well as the technical know how, I couldn't really get rid of the feeling that something was missing it was during, business conference that I had a really transformative moment. There were speakers that were talking about overcoming obstacles by shifting mindsets. And for whatever reason, it really struck a chord with me because I started to think, well, what was this mindset that I had? my mindset was just do the job, get the job done, and you'll be successful. So I was inspired by those stories, and I started to embrace what's known as a growth mindset, a positive mindset, and more self discipline in what it was that I was doing.

Zakia Ringgold [00:04:02]:

I quickly realized that my technical skills were just one piece of the puzzle. A strong mindset was the catalyst for true success. So I began to see failures as stepping stones to growth and learning. I adopted a never stop improving attitude. Like, how can I go just a step further with each event, with each encounter, And then I was constantly seeking ways to enhance my own skills and adapt to the virtual landscape, which was then going to the hybrid landscape, which then goes to the in person landscape, and then the ever shifting pendulum that was going back and forth depending on the client that I was talking to. All of this to say, the impact of these mindset shifts was extremely profound. My virtual events became more seamless, engaging, and impactful, clients noticed the difference and started recommending my services more to other people. The positivity and the confidence that I exuded overall attracted collaborations and partnerships that were beyond my wildest dreams.

Zakia Ringgold [00:05:20]:

So the picture of this, I'm 2 years into business and I'm producing a national hit pop 50 conference. That just doesn't happen. And I know that I can attribute that to the mindset shift. So my journey is really a testament to the undeniable influence of mindset on entrepreneurial success. So while technical skills are crucial, it's the mindset behind those tools that truly propels us forward, embracing growth, positivity, and self discipline transformed my business from stagnation to completely thriving. So mindset is a paramount importance when getting started as an entrepreneur because it serves as the foundation upon which your entire business journey is built. And here's why a positive and growth oriented mindset is crucial. Number 1 is resilience in the face of challenges.

Zakia Ringgold [00:06:24]:

entrepreneurship is full of challenges, uncertainty, and setbacks. A strong mindset is going to equip you with the resilience that you need to navigate those obstacles without becoming discouraged. And then you also need to be adaptable and innovative. Everything in the landscape is constantly evolving when you're owning your own business. A flexible mindset allows you to adapt to those changes. You can embrace innovation. You can be the innovator. and sees those new opportunities with confidence when they show up.

Zakia Ringgold [00:07:04]:

We've all been in the corporate space where it kinda feels like you're trying to shift the Titanic When you are a small business owner, you are the captain of that ship, and you can't get locked in your ways. And without a growth mindset, you will get locked into your ways and probably missed opportunities. You'll also need this positive mindset and growth mindset for your problem solving and decision making. So a positive mindset fosters a very proactive approach to any problem solving that you're going to encounter. So it helps you to make really good decisions even when you're in high pressure situations. another one would be risk management. Right? So entrepreneurship involves taking risk. that is the sheer definition of entrepreneurship.

Zakia Ringgold [00:07:56]:

But a balanced mindset helps you to, number 1, assess what those risks are while making calculated decisions and managing potential setbacks effectively. Most importantly is no man is an island in an of ins of themselves. So growth and learning are important as you're setting out as an entrepreneur, and that growth mindset encourages you to continuously learn and improve. It helps you to kinda refocus those failures as learning experiences. and then that'll help you to constantly refine your skills. And then building a successful business takes time and effort and a resilient mindset empowers you to stay persistent and persevere throughout those challenges. helping you with longer term success and not those short spurts of, oh, I got it here, but nothing's happening there. And then for a lot of reasons, confidence and self belief are built when you have a positive mindset.

Zakia Ringgold [00:09:06]:

it will definitely boost your self confidence, helping you to actually believe in your abilities and vi visions I can't tell you how many times I have talked myself out of opportunities before I had this shift in mindset. It was like, who are you to try and do x, y, and z? Don't be that person. in a positive mindset is going to help to reinforce that reinforce that. So in essence, mindset acts as the compass that guides your journey. It shapes your attitudes, behaviors, and actions all impacting how you're going to approach your business, your challenges that you face, the opportunities that come your way, So while mastering the practicalities of tech and systems is essential, a positive growth oriented mindset is going to be the driving force that turns those tools that you use into meaningful sustainable success. Number 1, you want to embrace that growth mindset, I want you to think of every obstacle that you come across as an opportunity in disguise.

Think of it like you're stepping stone for going into a more successful arena within your business. So imagine approaching all challenges with curiosity, resilience, and the unshakable belief that you can learn, adapt, and overcome any situation. Number 2, master self discipline. I don't mean vague affirmations or empty mantras but rather really sitting with what you think and how you think.

Shifting your perspective

Changing careers, especially from being an employee to an entrepreneur, isn't just a change in job description. It's a profound shift in your thoughts, perspectives, and how you approach challenges. My journey as a virtual event architect during the pandemic highlights the importance of this shift. I initially relied solely on technical expertise but faced challenges that made me question my abilities and the state of the business.

Have you ever experienced a moment in your career when challenges forced you to question not just your abilities but your entire approach to your work? How did you navigate this pivotal shift in mindset?

Cultivating a Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is a transformative perspective that can significantly impact your journey as an entrepreneur. Rather than viewing failures as insurmountable setbacks, it encourages you to perceive them as valuable stepping stones on your path to growth and learning.

Embracing a growth mindset means understanding that every challenge, setback, or obstacle is an opportunity for development. When you encounter a roadblock, instead of getting discouraged, you see it as a chance to acquire new knowledge and skills. This mindset fosters a never-stop-improving attitude, where you continually seek ways to enhance your abilities and adapt to the ever-evolving business landscape.

Psychology today offers tips and insights for 15 ways to cultivate a growth mindset. They offer that "with a growth mindset, we can break through the stuck-ness and achieve the long-term goals we desire, whether that be at work, in our relationships, or in other aspects of our lives."

Imagine each setback as a lesson that propels you forward. You analyze what went wrong, identify areas for improvement, and apply these lessons to your next endeavor. This continuous cycle of learning and growth becomes a fundamental part of your entrepreneurial journey.

In practice, it means being open to feedback, both positive and constructive, and using it as a means to refine your approach. It means actively seeking out opportunities for skill development and proactively working on your weaknesses. It's about constantly pushing your boundaries, experimenting with new strategies, and embracing change as a natural part of your business evolution.

Ultimately, a growth mindset doesn't just help you overcome obstacles; it empowers you to thrive in the face of adversity. It turns setbacks into opportunities, fosters innovation, and positions you for long-term success. So, as you embark on your entrepreneurial journey, remember that your mindset can be your most potent tool for achieving your goals.

Fostering Resilience and Adaptability

Entrepreneurship is a roller coaster ride filled with challenges, uncertainties, and setbacks. A strong mindset equips you with the resilience needed to face these obstacles without losing heart. It also fosters adaptability, allowing you to navigate changes and seize new opportunities with confidence. Imagine entrepreneurship as the roller coaster car hurtling through its twists and turns. A strong mindset serves as your safety harness, keeping you secure when things get bumpy. It equips you with the resilience needed to withstand the gravitational forces of adversity without losing heart. When faced with challenges, your mindset encourages you to stand tall, push through, and maintain your focus on the horizon of your goals.

But resilience is just one facet of the entrepreneurial mindset; adaptability is just as crucial. The business landscape is constantly evolving, like the roller coaster track ahead. A strong mindset fosters adaptability, allowing you to pivot, adjust, and navigate changes with grace and confidence. Rather than fearing the unexpected twists, you see them as opportunities to explore new methods, refine your strategies, and seize opportunities as they arise.

Building Confidence and Self-Belief

A positive mindset reinforces self-confidence and self-belief, essential qualities for any entrepreneur. When you believe in your abilities and visions, you're more likely to pursue opportunities with determination and conviction. It's not just about thinking positively; it's about shaping your outlook on yourself, your abilities, and your visions in a way that empowers you to take on the challenges of entrepreneurship with unwavering determination and unshakable conviction.

It's not just about thinking positively; it's about shaping your outlook on yourself, your abilities, and your visions in a way that empowers you to take on the challenges of entrepreneurship with unwavering determination and unshakable conviction.

In the world of entrepreneurship, where uncertainty and ambiguity are constant, self-confidence and self-belief are your solutions. They provide the foundation upon which you can build a thriving business.
